On artistic self-management: peer up and do it – a response

Not sure if this is a piece for this blog but in any case here I’m sharing it.

COFFEE MORNINGS: RANT. CHAT. EAT.

From Antonio de la Fe, who hosted the Coffee Morning:

“A LONDON dance organisation that faced closure when its entire Arts Council funding was axed has fought on to celebrate its 30th birthday.

Chisenhale Dance Space in Bow is launching The Big 30 – a three-month celebration including new commissions – next Thursday with Cake, an evening performance from Eleanor Sikorski, above. Laura Sweeney, Chisenhale lead producer, said losing the £113,000 subsidy – more than half its annual income – in 2008 was ‘devastating’ but the centre had managed to carry on as a home for dancers developing more experimental work.”

(Randhawa, K. “No Cakewalk: Dance Centre Beats Cuts to Mark 30 Years.” Evening Standard [London]Thursday 12 September 2013: p. 32).

I was invited to host this Coffee Morning: Rant.Chat.Eat on the subject of artistic self-management.

It would be an impossible task to record here all what was said…
